Over the years, a lot of myths have cropped up regarding chiropractic care. Sometimes they become broadly accepted, displacing established facts. When this happens, it is unfortunate, as many people who would otherwise benefit from chiropractic treatment forego it- often in exchange for more dangerous alternatives.

Myth: Chiropractic treatments are too dangerous.

Fact: Many studies have shown that Chiropractic adjustments are safer than many ordinary activities such as professional shampooing, break dancing, and stargazing- all of which place strain on the neck.

Myth: Prescription drugs are safe.

Fact: Prescription medications are the third greatest cause of death in the United States. Chiropractic care, by contrast, offers a safe and drug-free approach to many common ailments.

Myth: Once you receive Chiropractic treatment, you will become addicted.

Fact: Regular Chiropractic adjustments are just a part of a normal and healthy lifestyle. The choice of whether or not to continue with it is up to the individual.

Myth: Chiropractic care does not work.

Fact: Millions of people benefit from Chiropractic care, including many famous and successful people such as Arnold Schwarzenegger, Lance Armstrong, Tiger Woods, Christie Brinkley, Joe Montana, Emmit Smith, and many others.

Myth: Children do not benefit from Chiropractic adjustments.

Fact: Under the right conditions, and when applied correctly Chiropractic care is safe and can be very beneficial for children.

Myth: Small bumps and bruises on children are harmless.

Fact: OSHA estimates that the average child takes over 1,500 spinal–related impacts and traumas before the age of 5. Chiropractic care can help to mitigate the damage done and remedy the adverse effects of these impacts.

Myth: Chiropractors are not real medical practitioners.

Fact: Students of Chiropractic medicine undergo more than 4,480 hours of college level classroom training and instruction. Compare that to the 4,248 hours other medical students receive, and you may begin to get a clearer perspective on the contrast.

Myth: It is safer to do self-adjustments.

Fact: Self-adjustments can give some relief and a sense of improvement, but only trained Chiropractors can perform these interventions correctly in a way that is safe and effective.

Myth: Your bones and joints can be damaged during an adjustment.

Fact: The noise is really only the release of CO2 gas from the joints of the spine. That is what creates that particular popping sound you hear during the adjustments. There are also noise free treatments for those who are averse to the popping sound.

Myth: Chiropractic treatment is too expensive.

Fact: Many insurance companies offer coverage for Chiropractic adjustments as they have found that the benefits of preventative Chiropractic care are far preferable to drugs and invasive surgery.
